During our five-day conference, 21-25 June 2027, you’ll spend mornings giving and receiving feedback with your genre-specific workshop group. Then we'll lunch together to grow together.
Afternoons will incorporate writing instruction and exercises while we enjoy learning within the rooms at Freswick Castle.
One afternoon midweek, we’ll set aside our schedule for an outdoor Scotland adventure.
So, yes, at Scriptoria, you’ll grow your writing and your community while exploring Scotland—all in the context of faith. You’ll join Catholic and Protestant participants who ask this question: “What does it mean to be a person of faith who writes?”

Stay for a week in Scotland’s northern edge along the North Sea where stands a Viking castle along Freswick Bay. The castle, now owned by Wayfarer’s Trust, headed by UK scriptwriter Murray Watts, welcomes creatives for growing and for resting.
Climb spiral staircases as you head toward your genre-specific workshop class. During break, open the backdoor and walk onto the beach along the sea.
You’ll attend your workshop and classes in Freswick and stay nearby at The Inn of John O' Groats or at a Wicks’ hotel. (See Lodging.) A shuttle service will transport you twice daily.
Freswick Castle will house our workshops and classes.
